Dale & Debbie Part 60 - Back in the US - from Erie, PA to Coldwater, MI

24th Jul 2025

After exploring Ontario, our first U.S. stop was Erie, PA. We stayed just south of town and spent time at Presque Isle State Park, home to the historic lighthouse, the Perry Monument, and a scenic 13.5-mile bike trail along the lake. From there, we continued west through Ohio, visiting Maumee Bay and spotting the Toledo Harbor Lighthouse, before heading to Coldwater, MI for a rainy but fun family visit. Join us below for our latest adventures!

Presque Isle Lighthouse is located in Presque Isle State Park aka “the peninsula” (located about 4 miles from downtown Erie).

Also located in the park is the Karl Boyes multi-purpose trail. It makes a 13.5 mile circuit and was great for riding bikes along the lake.  A U.S. Naval Reserve Training Center was training over the bay and isle during our bike ride.

The Perry Monument stands at Crystal Point on the peninsula and honors Commodore Oliver Hazard Perry, a war hero who defeated the British at the battle of Lake Erie in the War of 1812.

This was taken from the campground we stayed at just south of Erie.

One day, we hiked along the lake in a mostly wooded area.

We thought it odd to see a mounted satellite dish on this dilapidated house just outside Erie.

Driving past Cleveland on our way to Maumee Bay State Park in Oregon, Ohio.

Toledo Harbor Lighthouse is located about 7 miles from Maumee Bay State Park. This picture is extremely zoomed-in with our wonderful camera.

There are GREAT bike trails throughout the park as well as hiking trails. They allowed excellent wildlife viewing.

I’ll end with this interesting sign. We were looking, but didn’t see a Bigfoot!

Our next stop was Coldwater, MI. It was a good location to meet up with a few of Dale’s Michigan cousins. Unfortunately, it rained the day we planned our get-together, so 9 of us spent the afternoon in our motor home, but it worked out fine.

It was a fun visit!

The rain finally stopped late in the day.  When we took this picture, one cousin had already left, and one could not make it.

The campground where we stayed in Coldwater has a pond you can walk around (above) as well as a lake (below).

Until next time,
Debbie and Dale
