How to Turn Your RV Into a Sleep Sanctuary

How to Turn Your RV Into a Sleep Sanctuary

8th Aug 2025

Part 3 of our Sleep Tourism Series

You’ve found the perfect destination. The stars are out, the air is crisp, and your campsite is peaceful. But if your RV bed isn’t comfortable or your space isn’t set up for sleep, even the most relaxing location won’t help you rest.

In Part 1 of our Sleep Tourism Series, we introduced the concept of sleep tourism and how RV travel offers the perfect way to embrace it. In Part 2, we shared some of the best RV destinations for a restful "sleepcation."

In this installment of our Sleep Tourism series, we’re showing you how to turn your RV into a true sleep sanctuary—no matter where your travels take you.

Create a Relaxing Bedtime Routine

Just like at home, having a calming bedtime ritual in your RV can make it easier to wind down. Keep it simple and portable:

  • Diffuse lavender or eucalyptus essential oil
  • Dim lights 30–60 minutes before bed
  • Read a book or journal instead of scrolling
  • Try light stretching or deep breathing before climbing into bed

Your body loves consistency—even when you’re on the move.

Reduce Light & Noise for Deeper Rest

Campgrounds can be unpredictable—bright lights, slamming doors, barking dogs. Reduce disturbances and take control of your sleep environment.

Light control:

  • Install blackout curtains or shades to keep your sleep space dark
  • Use an eye mask when full blackout isn’t possible

Noise control:

  • Bring a white noise machine or use an app on your phone
  • Use soft foam earplugs for especially noisy nights
  • Choose campsites away from playgrounds, roads, or generators when booking

Sleep Tip: Need a quieter spot? Try boondocking on BLM land or find a Dark Sky Park campground for true nighttime tranquility.

Regulate the Temperature Year-Round

RV interiors can be tricky—hot in the summer, chilly in the winter. Comfort starts with temperature control.

For warm-weather sleeping:

  • Keep windows cracked and use a fan or vent system for airflow
  • Use lightweight, breathable sheets and blankets
  • Park in shaded spots when possible

For cold-weather sleeping:

  • Use layered bedding, like a Polartec® Fleece Blanket that stays in place with fitted corners
  • Seal windows and vents to reduce drafts
  • Add a safe ceramic heater for overnight warmth

Choose the Right RV Mattress & Bedding

Let’s be honest: most RV mattresses that come standard from the factory aren’t designed for comfort. A restful night starts with a supportive foundation.
