Alaska - Part 1

A few years ago we spent the summer exploring The Last Frontier State, and we'd like to share some highlights. We included some Alaska wildlife photos in our wildlife series last year so we decided to leave them out of this article, but we are making an exception for the bald eagle. After all, it is our national bird and there are so many in Alaska!

We rode our bikes to the North Pole! Once inside Santa Land, it didn’t take Dale long to find a bench!

The small community of Chicken has chicken art everywhere. We particularly like this one made of old high school lockers! Believe it or not, Chickenstock Music Festival is a real event held every June.

Boats, boats, and more boats. Ships, too!

There’s even a graveyard for boats in Homer.

Dale also caught a lot of halibut in Alaska! it was truly some of the best fish we have ever eaten.

Aurora Ice Museum ~ notice how thick the doors are. How would you like to sleep in one of these beds for a night? You can for $600. They give you a bear skin and a sleeping bag. You are locked in, but if you need to use the bathroom or just get too cold, you can exit and walk to the nearby lodge where they also have a room reserved for you. The catch is that you can’t get back in to the ice museum for the rest of the night.

Here are some of our favorite scenery photos of areas like the Kenai Fjords National Park and beautiful bodies of water to leave you with until next time. Look for Alaska - part 2 in February so you don’t miss our flight around Denali, North America’s highest mountain peak, and more!
As always, happy camping!

Until next time -
