Dale & Debbie Part 21 - Wildlife - Reptiles!

Dale & Debbie Part 21 - Wildlife - Reptiles!

3rd Mar 2022

ALLIGATORS
We have umpteen photos of gators! They are definitely not our favorite wildlife so why did we take so many photos? Possibly because we’ve seen so many or they are so easy to photograph. I really don’t know! But I do have some good shots to share.

CROCODILES
We wanted to see a crocodile and were told the best place in FL is in the southernmost part of Everglades National Park where the Flamingo Visitor Center is located. That’s where fresh water meets salt water, and they prefer salt or brackish water. So one day we drove all the way down there and found two crocs. The best way to tell the difference between a croc and a gator is crocs have a narrow tapered snout whereas gators have a broad rounded snout. The croc is also a lighter color. Everglades NP is the only place in the world where alligators and crocodiles co-exist!

TURTLES & LIZARDS
Here are some very green turtles (haha). Check out our cool pictures of western painted turtles and gopher tortoises. Also check out these cute little lizard friends we found too.

WARNING: SNAKES ARE NEXT!
For those of you who do not like to see them, keep on scrolling!! They are the last reptile so you will not miss anything if you don’t continue scrolling.

SNAKES
I don’t like snakes myself so I’m not even going to try and name them. And I can tell you that I did not take any of these photos, it was all Dale! We have several more photos of snakes that I did not include and have also seen some that Dale didn’t take pictures of. You never know where one may be so we try to be vigilant when it comes to snakes (especially when hiking).

Until next time -
